Hisana Kuchicki

Hisana is Byakuya's decreased wife. She is a commoner. Hisana died with her baby sister in the real world and got sent to soul society living in the poor area. Byakuya married her regardless of the rule that did not allow nobles to marry a commoner since it would lower their repuation. It is later revieled that Hisana is Rukia's older sister. Apparently Hisana had difficulties living in soul society so she had to abandon baby Rukia. She regretted this later on and hope to find Rukia. When she married Byakuya she continued to search for Rukia hoping to find her so they can live together. However it was to late for Hisana because she became very ill. Before she died, she asked Byakuya to find Rukia because she wanted him to take care of her. Hisana requested him not to tell Rukia that she was the older sister because she felt guilty for abandoning her in the first place. Byakuya and Hisana was married for five years before she died. It is unknown how they meant each other.

Rukia Kuchicki

Rukia, the second main character in BLEACH, is Byakuya's adopted little sister. About a year or so after his wife's death, he found Rukia in the Shinigami school and immediately adopted her. Adopting her was against the rules, but he promise his parents in front of their grave that this was going to be the last time he would break a rule. Since Rukia got adopted; she got the advantage of graduating early and entering the Gotei 13 without taking the exams. It is said that he adopted her because she resembles Hisana but this is not true. Hisana told Byakuya to not tell Rukia about her because she was ashame of herself for not being a good sister.

In the beginning, Byakuya doesn't really show much of a brotherly figure towards Rukia. Rukia even said that since she became part of the Kuchiki family, he has never once gave a slight care about her. This is true though because he shows no emotions for her. When it was announce that she was going to get executed, he doesn't even try to go against the decision.

During the battle of Byakuya vs. Ichigo, Ichigo asked why he doesn't want to save Rukia. Byakuya says that if Ichigo can defeat him, he will give him an answer. After Ichigo wins ( a very close match >=T too) Byakuya says that he has to follow the rules and set out the standard for the rest of the Shinigami. Ichigo replies that if he was in Byakuya's situation, he would break the rules. Byakuya seems to be surprise with this response. This seems to be the spark where Byakuya thinks deep about what's really important to him. Later on when Rukia was going to get hit by Gin's soul cutter, Byakuya steps in and take the hit for Rukia. At this point, we see that he does care for Rukia. Later he tells Rukia the truth about Hisana and he hold her hand =) how sweet.

Renji Abarai

Renji is Byakuya's Vice Caption. Their connections is base on superior and subordinate relationship. Renji seems to dislike and wants to surpass him, probably because Byakuya "took" Rukia away from him. In the outside he shows a lot of respect for Byakuya like how a typically vice caption would towards a caption. Deep down Renji wants to prove that he is a worthy fighter. He says that Byakya doesn't give a damn about his subordinate.

During Byakuya's recovery, Renji seems to care about his Captain. Byakuya says that Renji probably wish he was died but Renji replies that if Byakuya dies then there is no other motivations for him to become stronger. Renji then gets made at Ichigo for intrupting his conversation with Byakuya because he was going to say something cool. Well other then a job relationship, I don't see anything else going on between them. Note : Renji is also Rukia's childhood friend.

Ichigo Kurrosaki

If Byakuya did not battle Ichigo, he probably wouldn't have reconsider saving Rukia from the execution. Byakuya thinks that Ichigo should learn to respect his elders because Ichigo addresses him by his first name instead of Byakuya-sama or Taicou (Caption).

Yoruichi Shihouin

Yoruichi is from the noble Shihouin clan and ex caption of the 2nd division/Military. She gave up her position in Soul Society behind in order to help Urahara escape. From there she lives in the real world in a form of a black cat. Not much is known between Yoruichi and Byakuya except they are acquaintance. The only thing that is known though is that he played shunpo tag with her when he was younger, for training, but never beats her at the game.
